Oluchi Onweagba, From Street To Stardom

Oluchi Onweagba was born at Lagos. Her father was a civil servant, and her mother a nurse. Oluchi grew up in the suburbs of Lagos with her two brothers and sisters. At age 16, Despite her ignorance towards fashion and modeling, Oluchi accepted a friend of her family’s urging her to compete in the 1998 M-Net's 'Face of Africa' competition. She won that contest and played in the film "After The Sunset". Elite Models Management awarded her a three-year modeling contract which sent her to the top of the fashion industry and she quickly became one of the most sought after models.

Oluchi has become a true icon proudly representing her Africa in the international fashion industry. She has graced the covers of Italian Vogue, I-D, Elle, Untold, Surface and also featured in Nylon, Marie Claire, Allure, and Vogue in a variety of different languages. Furthermore, Oluchi became the face of the campaigns for Gianfranco Ferre, Victoria’s Secret, Gap, Express, Banana Republic, and Ann Taylor. She has also worked as a runway model with such big names as John Galliano, Christian Dior, Costume National, Chanel, and Giorgio Armanie, etc. Oluchi is more than just a pretty face. Her remarkable humility and friendly disposition endears her to almost everyone. She knows that beauty and pretty face will someday fade away so She's currently pursuing an associate’s degree.

Oluchi's success from 'street to stardom' has been a source of inspiration to many young Nigerian girls. But Oluchi's success is not by accident. She is a well-raised child who appreciates her humble background and continues to carry her success with humility and Obedience to God.
