Jennifer Hudson - Defying
All Odds
Jennifer
grew up in south side of Chicago IL, USA. At age seven she
started singing in a local church choir. Jeniffer contested
in the Fox hit reality show, American Idol Season 3 in
August 2003, at Atlanta. Amongst 70,000 hopefuls Jennifer
was a stand out choice as a top 12 competitor. However, she
finished at a disappointing 7th position paving way for her
early departure from the competition. Her elimination from
the American Idol contest became controversial, as she
received high praise from some of music’s biggest industry
legends. Sir Elton John was quoted as saying she was "the
best of the lot". Although Jennifer did not win the idol
crown she left an indelible mark on the music industry and
viewers. Fans across the world fell in love with her voice.
After the Idol contest, Jennifer started performing at
benefit concerts, including the hit Broadway musical "Hair".
She was also invited to perform at an event in her hometown
along side such notable acts as Destiny’s Child, Kanye West
and others. In a move that staged a comeback for the fallen
idol, Jennifer debuted an original song entitled "Stand Up",
which has since been strongly supported & requested on radio
and has already created
a buzz on the internet.
Up until now, Jennifer Hudson, 24, has been best known as
the American Idol finalist. But she return to the spotlight
to play the much-sought-after starring role of Effie, the
girl-group diva who is unfairly dumped from the lineup, in
DreamWorks' movie version of the 80s Broadway musical
Dreamgirls. Jennifer Hudson has won Golden Globe and SAG
awards and is up for an Oscar for her role in Dreamgirls –
despite what she describes as an abusive experience on
American Idol.
